How to create a MAM Feel Good Candle for the #waveoflight

Recycle your baby’s MAM Feel Good Glass bottle

Make the MAM Feel Good Candle and share with us a picture of your creation and light it up on the 15th October at 7pm for the global #waveoflight as part of Baby Loss Awareness Week 9th-15th October 2018.

Our Blogger Sharon Wallace from Design Mum has come up with a great cost-effective and sustainable way for you to make something really sentimental this year. Why not recycle your baby’s MAM Feel Good Glass bottle and transform it into a beautiful natural candle?

Feel Good Candle on Shelf

OK, so, here goes…

What you will need:

  • MAM 170ml Feel Good Glass Bottle (warning – these instructions are for glass bottles only)
  • 200g of Soy Wax
  • Candle Wick
  • Lollipop Stick
  • Super glue (optional – if you want it to be sturdy)
  • Saucepan
  • Oven gloves & Apron
  • Tinfoil (optional)
  • Paper kitchen towels & surface wipes (cleaning)
  • Essential oils (optional)

Step. 1

Optional -lay your tinfoil out on a work surface, out of reach of little ones, and stand your bottle in the centre. (This will catch any messy drips later).

Step. 2

Super glue the end of the reel of wick to the base of the bottle. Making sure it sits in the centre of the base. Hold the wick straight up. Lay the lollipop stick across the top of the bottle and fold/wrap left over wick around it, trying to keep it central.

Step. 3

Place the soy wax into a saucepan and heat slowly on a low heat until it all has melted into a liquid form. Do not let it boil.

Step. 4

Wear oven gloves and apron for extra precaution when handling the hot wax and carefully pour the melted wax into your prepared bottle. Leave a bit of space at the top of the bottle. Warning: take extra caution as this can be very hot.

Step. 5

Add a couple of drops of your favourite essential oil for fragrance if desired.

Step. 6

Leave to cool in the bottle until set and make sure it is kept out of reach from your little ones. Once set, unwrap the wick from the lollipop stick and trim to desired length. You could also rapid cool this in the fridge too for a faster result.

Voila and there you have it! Very own homemade, upcycled candle project in a MAM Feel Good Glass Baby Bottle.

-Never leave a lit candle unattended.

Cleaning tips:

As the candle wax is biodegradable and water soluble, it is easy to clean accidental spills. For any wax spillages on counter tops, wipe straight away with paper kitchen towel whilst the wax is still in liquid form. If the wax has hardened this can be cleaned with some wet surface wipes or sponge with hot soapy water. Same principle applies with cleaning the saucepan.

Remember to post on the 15th October at 7pm with the hashtag #waveoflight  & @mambabyuk to help us raise awareness about pregnancy loss and baby death.

As part of Baby Loss Awareness Week we have also introduced our new Rainbow Soother & Clip It. To reflect a ‘Rainbow Baby’. The rainbow symbolises a rainbow baby that is born following a pregnancy loss. Every 50p from this set goes to Tommy’s Charity.
