How To Upcycle your MAM Glass Bottle Into A Candle For The #Waveoflight

Baby Loss Awareness Week

Every year on the 9-15th of October we take a moment to remember all the babies who have been lost, grieve with those who have suffered a baby loss and raise awareness of the work that charities such as Tommy’s do to support families. The culmination of Baby Loss Awareness Week is known as the #WaveofLight. On the 15th of October at 7pm local time we invite you to join us and others around the globe in lighting a candle in remembrance.

Blogger Sharon Wallace from Design Mum has come up with a great cost-effective and sustainable way for you to make something really sentimental this year. Why not upcycle your baby’s MAM Feel Good Glass bottle and transform it into a beautiful natural candle?

OK, so, here goes… creating a candle out of your old MAM Glass Bottle

  • 200g of Soy Wax
  • Candle Wick
  • Lollipop Stick

Step. 1

Optional -lay your tinfoil out on a work surface, out of reach of little ones, and stand your bottle in the centre. (This will catch any messy drips later).

Step. 2

Super glue the end of the reel of wick to the base of the bottle. Making sure it sits in the centre of the base. Hold the wick straight up. Lay the lollipop stick across the top of the bottle and fold/wrap left over wick around it, trying to keep it central.

Step. 3

Place the soy wax into a saucepan and heat slowly on a low heat until it all has melted into a liquid form. Do not let it boil.

Step. 4

Wear oven gloves and apron for extra precaution when handling the hot wax and carefully pour the melted wax into your prepared bottle. Leave a bit of space at the top of the bottle. Warning: take extra caution as this can be very hot.

Step. 5

Add a couple of drops of your favourite essential oil for fragrance if desired.

Step. 6

Leave to cool in the bottle until set and make sure it is kept out of reach from your little ones. Once set, unwrap the wick from the lollipop stick and trim to desired length. You could also rapid cool this in the fridge too for a faster result.

Voila and there you have it! Very own homemade, upcycled candle project in a MAM Feel Good Glass Baby Bottle.

-Never leave a lit candle unattended.

Cleaning Tips:

As the candle wax is biodegradable and water soluble, it is easy to clean accidental spills. For any wax spillages on counter tops, wipe straight away with paper kitchen towel whilst the wax is still in liquid form. If the wax has hardened this can be cleaned with some wet surface wipes or sponge with hot soapy water. Same principle applies with cleaning the saucepan.
